Changes to Blood Glucose Test Strip Subsidy for People with Type 2 Diabetes not using Insulin

Tuesday, January 10, 2017 - 15:43

Effective from 1 July 2016, all registrants with type 2 diabetes who are not using insulin are able to access subsidised blood glucose test strips (BGTS) through the NDSS for an initial six month period.

The initial six month access period commences from the date the registrant first purchases BGTS on or after 1 July 2016.

To continue to self-monitor blood glucose after the initial six month access period, registrants will need to have a Blood Glucose Test Strip Six Month Approval form signed and certified by a registered medical practitioner, nurse practitioner or CDE. This form is available from the NDSS website at:

https://www.ndss.com.au/forms

Registrants need to bring the completed authorisation form to their NDSS pharmacy. Pharmacy staff will check that is it completed and signed and update their details in the system. The system will automatically calculate the 6 month period based on the details entered.
