Public Patients

If you do not have private health insurance and you are under the age of 18 years old, you may be eligible for the Type 1 Diabetes Insulin Pump Program. This program is an initiative of the Commonwealth Government and is administered by Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). The subsidy level now covers up to 80% of the total purchase price of an insulin pump. The subsidy that you may be eligible for will vary depending on your family’s circumstances. More information can be found here. To apply, please click here to go to the JDRF website.

Alternatively, you may wish to pay for a pump yourself. In this case, prior to purchasing your pump, we require written confirmation from your doctor that you are suitable for pump therapy. Pumps will only be delivered to diabetes education centres or hospitals and patients will need to make contact with their respective centre to arrange training.

To ensure delivery of your pump by the date of your scheduled training, we require two weeks notice so that invoicing and payment arrangements can be completed beforehand.

Transmitters and Sensors

Transmitters and sensors for the MiniMed Paradigm™ REAL-Time System and MiniMed Paradigm™ Veo™ System can be purchased directly from Medtronic.

Warranties

Medtronic MiniMed pumps come with a four-year warranty.

Money-Back Guarantee

Should there be medical reasons for the patient to discontinue insulin pump therapy, there is a 30-day money-back guarantee after the date of pump initiation.

Tax Offsets

You may be eligible for a tax offset of 20 per cent of your net medical expenses over the threshold. There is no upper limit on the amount that can be claimed. Net medical expenses are the medical expenses you have paid less any refunds you receive, or could receive, from Medicare or a private health fund. You may be able to claim expenses relating to most illnesses or operations paid to legally qualified doctors, nurses or chemists, and public or private hospitals. Further information is available from your accountant or from the Australian Taxation Office.
