Ongoing Costs

The National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS)

The National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) is an initiative of the Commonwealth Government administered by Diabetes Australia Ltd. The NDSS is a program that provides blood and urine testing strips, syringes, and insulin pump consumables at subsidised prices to registered patients.

Australian residents who have been diagnosed with diabetes by a medical practitioner and hold a current Australian Medicare card can register with the NDSS. If you are a visitor to Australia and from a country with a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement, you may be entitled to temporary registration.

To find information on eligibility, how to register and on what products are available, go to the NDSS website.

If you are not eligible for subsidies through the NDSS, you will need to order your pump consumables directly from Medtronic and pay upon placing your order. The monthly cost for pump consumables is approximately $200-$250.

If you have private health insurance, we suggest you contact your health fund directly to confirm whether they will provide benefits towards the cost of your pump consumables.
