How Does it Work?

The MiniMed Guardian™ REAL-Time continuous glucose monitoring system comprises a small blood glucose sensor, Medtronic MiniLink™ REAL-Time transmitter, and monitor. Just like an infusion set, the sensor is easily inserted using an insertion device provided with the system. The sensor attaches to the small, lightweight MiniLink transmitter, which sends glucose sensor data wirelessly to your monitor.

The Guardian REAL-Time provides an average blood glucose measurement every five minutes - that's up to 288 readings a day! It also plots trend lines so you can see how your levels may be affected by foods, medications, and activities. From this information, you can work with your endocrinologist or diabetes educator to make informed adjustments to your diet and therapy, and achieve better overall control.

Compact, Comfortable, and Easy to Use

All the components of the Guardian™ REAL-Time System are small, discreet, and easy to wear. The tiny glucose sensor is easily inserted under the skin using an auto-insertion device that comes with the system. The rechargeable transmitter connects directly to the glucose sensor and sends data wirelessly to the monitor, which can be up to 1.8 metres away. And the monitor can be attached to a belt, hidden in a pocket, or placed under clothing.

Best of all, the MiniLink™ REAL-Time transmitter and glucose sensor are both waterproof, allowing you to shower, bathe, and swim.
